"Story is everything. Dialogue can be great but if you don't sustain it no one will care." - Doug Ellin
Doug Ellin arrived in Hollywood with dreams of being a stand-up comedian. Life, however, threw him a curve ball while working in the mail room for New Line Cinema, where he met Mike DeLuca, President of the company. Several feature films later, Ellin collaborated with Mark Wahlberg and Steve Levinson to create "Entourage." In this interview Ellin discusses how he occasionally works without a net, writing for a cable network and his unique ear for dialogue.

as well as for any writer whose heart sank even a little when JK Rowling confessed she'd had the whole series mapped out in a notebook for years. I've never been able to do that, so I found it refreshing to hear that Doug Ellin can't either, and that he would relate to my lifelong movie-quoting obsession. Also, if you haven't, rent the original In-Laws...it's truly a comedy classic that I can't believe anyone remade...Albert Brooks or no Albert Brooks.
